Actually, doing absolutely everything in their power to acquire Dembele is more like it.
Dembele's stellar play likely makes him too expensive for Fulham's blood, which means a move to a bigger EPL club is likely. According to Anthony Ashworth of the Metro News, Liverpool is one of those clubs.
"The Belgian international is out of contract at Craven Cottage in 2013, and is already being chased by Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham," Ashworth writes.
According to the story, those three squads join powerhouses Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea as clubs willing to pay the £10million fee, so acquiring his services won't be easy. Nonetheless, the Reds must chase the young forward with everything they've got.
Why? Because changes are badly needed at Anfield, and Dembele represents the solution to Liverpool's biggest problem.
Liverpool finished in a disappointing eighth place in the EPL this season, and most of those problems stemmed from the offensive half of the pitch. In 38 league matches, the Reds were only able to rack up 47 goals, which put them at 11th in the league, behind clubs such as Norwich and newly-relegated Blackburn.
On defense, Liverpool was actually quite stellar, giving up just 40 total goals, which was good enough for fourth-best in the league.
Despite Martin Skrtel possibly skipping town, it's clear that, more than anything else, the Reds need some creativity and youth injected up front. Moussa Dembele is all that and more. Just take a look at what he has to offer:
This season with Fulham, Dembele has scored just two goals and tallied only two assists, but his skills go much further than those numbers. Most notably, he's regarded as one of the biggest reasons why teammate Clint Dempsey has had such a tremendous season.
Dembele has tremendous footwork and possesses good skill with the ball at his feet. Or, if he wants, he can get by defenders with his quick pace.
Some places list Dembele as a forward, but he's more of a central midfielder. His worth starts with his creativity and play-making ability, where he can open up the whole field.
For Liverpool, a squad that struggled to score so many times this year, Dembele is a logical target. He's young, he's aggressive and he will open up the whole field for Luis Suarez, Andy Carroll and company.
