Eighties Liverpool Home Shirts

In 1982, however, the club released a new home shirt, which was completely re-modelled. The sleeves and the collar are the same thick white colour, but both have a red line going through the centre. The body of the shirt had the most changes, featuring white pin-stripes running from top to bottom. The Umbro logo and club badge remain in gold, though. This stylish shirt was worn until 1985, and was worn when the Reds won their fourth European cup; although on some shirts the notion of a sponsor is scrapped, and on others, Crown Paints is written across the shirt in white letters.

The shirt that had to live up to the success of the last design was the first to be made by Adidas, whilst Crown Paints also took the sponsorship deal. The famous Adidas three stripes run down each sleeve, and a white collar features red trim. This shirt was worn for two seasons before minor preparations were made for the 1987/88 campaign. The Crown Paints sponsor was divided to fill two lines, rather than just a line of writing, and the club badge was also altered to feature a more modern style sheild.

The next shirt was also worn for just one season. It holds no design changes from the previous strip, only the sponsor has changed to Candy.

And finally, the shirt that took Liverpool into the 1990’s was released in 1989. It is also sponsored by Candy, and features the same Adidas stripes, logo and club badge. Although, the whole shirt is covered by shiny red points and lines, giving it a much more cluttered appearance. This shirt was worn for two years before being completely re-designed.
