The FInal
Last weekend, is the last show for Masterchef Malaysia Season 1. Congratulation to Ms Ezani the winner of the first season and same goes to Mr. Wahidan as the runner up. There are couple of questions that I would like to raise regarding the final.
Why the final of the masterchef is a group effort? Why need to served 40 pax during the final? Why don't they select couple of the best chef in KL to become the guest judge for the final?. What they try to highlight by serving 40pax during the Final?
Honestly I disagree with the concept of serving 40pax in the final. The ideal number of judges for the final is 6 as it is more manageable and challenge enough for the contestants to cook for.
In my opinion, the finalist need to show who they are? That why I believe that it is better for them to cook by themselves for the judges. By giving the full opportunity for them to showcase themselves, their cooking concept, ideas, technique plus we can see weather they really learned or not in the masterclass.
One of the comment given by the 40 judges is the Scallop is overcooked. If I'm the finalist, I will make sure it will be perfectly cooked but in their case, someone else is doing the cooking and the finalist is becoming the supervising person.
Did Astro know that they do not have a supervisory level experience yet in this area? So what the point they trying to do?
What they portray is similar concept with collage tutoring & examination. Why don't they do like most professional in the industry have to go thru for a job. FOOD TASTING!! Giving a freedom or concept of food that they need to present, few courses, good technical, new ideas and taste.
To add a challenge, maybe can asked them to incorporate couple of ingredients into their dishes but they have to do it by themselves. Then we can really see who is the best. Yes it is boring, but effective.
With the title of Masterchef, we want to see the best of the contestant, how they handle the pressure by themselves, how they ensure all their cooking is done properly, the their ideas, concept and technique.
I hope Astro will learn from this season and can improve for the coming season.
