Are Liverpool really need These GUYS?

Brendan Rodgers looks to bring a new era to Liverpool football, and with the transfer window nearing, big changes are expected for the club. A new manager means a new system, and Rodgers will have to clear out many who won't fit into the plans for 2012 and beyond.

Liverpool are a long way from competing with top Premier League teams, and Rodgers know that. It won't be a quick fix, he admits (per International Business Times):

"What we need to do is improve the team and the quality of the team and hopefully over the next couple of years we will be ready to challenge and ready to compete."

The beginning of a new age at Anfield will officially begin in July. Here are some players who will likely be shown the door next month.

Andy Carroll

This week, Goal.com reported that Paris Saint-Germain was interested in Carroll if other options fell through. The source says that they would only be willing to give  £12.8m for the striker, which would be a massive financial loss for Liverpool considering they paid £35m for him.

Carroll has struggled immensely since coming over from Newcastle, and it is unlikely that he will fit in Rodgers' system. Cutting ties with him now will have to result in money loss, but it may be the best option for the Reds.

The offer from PSG may be the best that Liverpool gets, and if the rumors are true, look for them to take the £12.8m and move on.

Joe Cole

Joe Cole wasn't in manager Kenny Dalgish's plans for Liverpool, but his dismissal and the hiring of Brendan Rodgers may prove to be a huge benefit for the midfielder. The 30-year-old spent last year on loan for the French club Lille, and had an impressive campaign.

There are rumors circling that many teams, including West Ham, are interested in Cole's services. However, Rodgers seems to like him and has Cole in his plans for the upcoming season.

 The only problem may be with Cole's ridiculously high £100,000 per week wages. That number alone may force Cole to take a pay cut, or force Liverpool to let him go.
 

Jay Spearing

Jay Spearing feels that he deserves a spot at Liverpool, but it remains to be seen if Brendan Rodgers feels the same way. The 23-year-old played moderate minutes last year, but wants to stay at Anfield and prove he belongs.

"I had that confidence to prove to the boss exactly what I could do. There was never any inkling to move on. Liverpool is where I have always wanted to be a part of (per Goal.com)."

Despite Spearing's desire to play for Liverpool, he could be moved this summer. He may be a name we see next month on the transfer market, but we will wait to see what Rodger's plan is as he and Liverpool start a new era.

Alberto Aquilani

The biggest transfer of the summer may be in the form of midfielder Alberto Aquilani. The 27-year-old spent last season on loan with AC Milan. His agent, Franco Zavaglia, says that Aquilani has no preference where he goes (per FootballGossip.org).

"The future of Alberto is exclusively in the hands of Liverpool, the club that owns his registration. The club will take a decision soon whether or not to take a chance on the player."

It looks as though Aquilani isn't in the plans for Liverpool. AC Milan will likely make an offer and Alberto should be playing at San Siro come September, with Liverpool again losing money in the transfer.
